GUBC '10 in a Row' Club Dinner 2009 Dear Argonauts, I am pleased to invite you to this year’s GUBC Club Dinner to be held on Saturday 21st November at the Glasgow University Union. I am writing this invite well in advance as I wish to announce that the 2009 dinner will mark a historic achievement by the club. In May, the Men’s squad were victorious in The Boat Race for the tenth year running. We, The Committee, have felt it would be fitting to celebrate this feat, by holding the dinner in honour of all the oarsmen that contributed. This one off event has been dubbed “The ’10 in a Row’ GUBC Club Dinner". It is my hope that we would be able to gather all these Argonauts at the GUU to make this a very special and unique occasion. By my count, I make it that there are only 40 rowers and coxes out there, who have featured in the ten crews. It is therefore not impossible to think we could have everyone present. Many of the recent members I am familiar with and can get in contact with. It is those from earlier crews, particularly 2000 and 2001 that it is more difficult to get an idea about. Could I therefore ask the stroke and cox of each crew to take a leading role in at least making sure that all your crew has received this invite. At the dinner, we hope to have Boat Race speeches, a photograph of the winners and a special presentation to cement all those involved in club history. Please do not be put off coming if you aren’t one of the forty. This promises to be a memorable night and all Argonauts and friends of the club are most welcome. You do not need to RSVP just yet, this is a message to allow for any travel and accommodation arrangements to be made. I will be in touch about how you can buy a ticket soon, the cost probably £30. Many Thanks, James Hayhurst Club Captain The Argonaut, a new newsletter to keep alumni of the club up to date with goings on in GUBC, is now available. Click here. Alumni Postal AddressesGUBC are currently trying to get hold of alumni postal addresses so we can send out newsletters and invitations to our up and coming events. Could you please getin touchwith us to send us your details. Further to this, if you have not already please sign up to our email mailing list too. This can be done by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page Glasgow Argonauts Boat Club is the alumni club for former members of Glasgow University BC, and was originally founded to provide a rowing club for alumni who wished to maintain links with and support GUBC. GABC's heyday was 60s and 70s when it was a serious force in Scottish Rowing. Now in more recent years the club has been revived and is currently going from strength to strength, with its main aim be a focus for alumni who wish to support and be informed about GUBC activities. Expanding the alumni and friends network of GUBC is crucial for the success of the club. It is the membership and donations that alumni make that help GUBC flourish, and all at the club are grateful for these. The plan for the coming season is to get more involvement between GUBC and it's Alumni. To stay notified of events please get in contact with us or use the links at the bottom of this page to sign up to the alumni mailing list.
